What is Frederick Health Hospital chargemaster?

This type of file is commonly referred to as the hospital’s “chargemaster.” In Maryland, the average rate for hospital services—radiology, laboratory, intensive care day, etc.—is regulated by the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC), a state regulatory agency. Due to this unique rate-setting system, Frederick Health Hospital’s charges will be the same for all patients, even though each patient’s financial responsibility will vary based on various factors. The HSCRC sets average hospital rates on January 1 and July 1 every year. Frederick Health Hospital, and all other Maryland hospitals, plan to post this information semi-annually, on or shortly after January 1 and July 1 to coincide with hospital rate setting.

How often should charges be updated at Frederick Health?

Frederick Health Hospital, and other Maryland hospitals, believe that it is impractical to update charges that are posted more than twice per year because charges change frequently.

Can you be billed separately for a hospital?

You may be billed separately for professional services. Though the state sets hospital rates as of a certain date, hospital charges are allowed to fluctuate during the course of the year, and detailed charges for certain items may be different than the average approved rate that covers a larger group of services.

Does Frederick Health Hospital have financial assistance?

Frederick Health Hospital has a Financial Assistance Program available for patients who find that they are un able to pay all or part of their medical bills. This program is based on the Federal Income Guidelines of the household, assets owned by the household, and household size.
