Sindecuse Health Center follows WMU's Medical Chaperone policy. For the protection of the patient and the healthcare provider, chaperones will attend all sensitive examinations. For other exams, patients are welcome to request a chaperone. Clinic staff are available to serve as a chaperone. Our staff will maintain patient confidentiality standards.

Book online All available appointments are shown to those seeking primary care appts. Some appointment types—international travel, for example—need to be scheduled by phone.

Immunizations

We strongly encourage verification of immunization status for all students. Please review our recommended immunizations to protect personal health and the health of the Western Michigan University community. We offer all of the recommended immunizations on the list.

OnGoing CAre

If a new WMU student wants to review complicated health history to determine whether transfer of care to the campus health center is appropriate, please call (269) 387-3287 to make an appointment to discuss care with one of our providers.

Transferring Prescriptions

To transfer a prescription, bring your medication container and prescription insurance card to the Sindecuse pharmacy. We’ll take care of transferring your prescription.

No-Cost testING for students, faculty and staff

Western Michigan University is offering up to three no-cost COVID-19 antigen tests to asymptomatic students, faculty and staff at Sindecuse Health Center in spring 2022. Call (269) 387-3287 and follow the prompts for an appointment to schedule your drive-thru or walk-up test. Tests are conducted at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day.

The ANTIGEN test

The health center offers rapid-result COVID-19 antigen testing. We provide results within hours for patients with or without symptoms. The antigen test tells whether you have been infected with the Sars-COV2 virus by detecting virus activity with a nasal-swabbed sample. Results are posted to the patient portal by the end of the day.

Getting tested

Visit the patient portal or call (269) 387-3287 to schedule a telehealth appointment with a provider.

Things to consider

As with any medical test, there is the potential for false-positive or false-negative test results.

Mandated Testing Program

WMU's mandated test program applies to those who have not registered a COVID-19 vaccination or booster with the health center. An informed consent agreement applies to tests done as a part of that program.

Mandated Testing for unvaccinated individuals

Information about scheduling required testing is on WMU's COVID web site. These tests will be administered at no charge to unvaccinated students and employees in the mandated program.

Other Testing

Visits and testing related to COVID-19 concerns are treated like any other visit to the Primary Care or Nursing teams. A patient is responsible for the portion of their bill that insurance doesn't cover. The University is no longer funding free testing or provider visits.

Screening antigen test

For those without symptoms and who have not had close-contact exposure to a person with COVID-19

Updated quarantine and isolation policy, no-cost tests

On Jan. 18, 2022, President Montgomery announced Western would invoke a isolation period of 10 days for those with a positive COVID-19 test result and a five-day quarantine for those who are unvaccinated and exposed to the virus but have not tested positive.

Booster needed for full vaccination at WMU

On Jan. 4, 2022, President Montgomery announced Western's definition of full vaccination will include a booster dose effective Jan. 17. Those without a booster dose on record at Sindecuse Health Center will be subject to weekly mandatory COVID-19 testing at North Kohrman Hall.
