How can a patient be admitted or transferred to an Emory Healthcare hospital? Patients may be admitted to an Emory Healthcare hospital by either consulting with their current physician or seeing an Emory Clinic physician or physicians on the Emory University Hospital Midtown campus.

Many times you are asked to fill out patient forms when you arrive at the clinic, but you don’t always have all of your health history information with you. The Patient Portal allows you to fill out forms prior to your appointment -- from the convenience and comfort of your home where you can access personal information. Once the information is entered, it is stored on the secure site.

The 21st Century Cures Act is a recent federal mandate that expands access to medical information. Pursuant to the Cures Act, Nuvance Health will release most test results (excluding genetics) and provider notes through the patient portal as soon as they are available.

Vital signs measure your body’s basic functions, such as your temperature and blood pressure. Lab tests are performed on samples of your blood, urine or other tissues, and generate lab results, such as your cholesterol level. Most lab results are displayed in the portal, but there are some exceptions.

Patients cannot request renewals for prescriptions received in the hospital; patients who see a provider who participates in the Emory BLUE Patient Portal in the hospital and in his/her clinic can request renewals through that provider via the portal. Most lab results are displayed in the portal, but there are some exceptions. On the Emory BLUE Patient Portal, screening tests used to initially diagnose HIV are not displayed. Tests used to diagnose a genetic condition, such as a disorder of blood clotting in your family, are not displayed in the portal.
Note if you have a hospital stay: Patients cannot communicate with providers who they see only in the hospital setting; patients who see a provider who participates in the Emory BLUE Patient Portal in the hospital and in his/her clinic can communicate with him/her via the portal.
