Porter Medical Center’s Patient Portals are online tools that help you to manage your healthcare easily and securely, allowing you to view your personal health record whenever and where ever you have access to the intranet. Porter has two separate patient portals that you can access, depending on the service you are using:
Northwest Health provides a patient portal help you be informed about your care and what you need to do to stay healthy. The patient portal is a secure, online home for your inpatient hospital health information.
The launch of MyChart at Porter Medical Center is part of a UVM Health Network-wide transition to Epic as its EHR. Epic and MyChart bring a more connected, safe, secure, and convenient online health experience to patients.
The FIRST STEP is to sign up for the Portal at your local provider office or Porter Hospital. (Due to HIPAA requirements, you must sign up in person) Once the Portal is activated, you will log on using the the “Hospital Portal” link above. Then, simply enter your user name and password.
Hospital porters are employed to move patients between wards and departments and to move goods and vital supplies including medical equipment, linen, blood, and samples. This is generally not regarded as skilled work, it attracts little attention and pay and conditions are generally among the lowest in the hospital.
The PatientPORTAL App connects you, the patient, with your healthcare provider. The App enables you to view upcoming appointments and lab results, as well as send and receive secure messages for yourself and any dependents that you may have for easy communication with your provider.

Electronic health record (EHR) patient portals provide a means by which patients can access their health information, including diagnostic test results. Little is known about portal usage by emergency department (ED) patients.
The findings, published in the journal Health Affairs, indicate a lack of physician, health system and insurer engagement in promoting portal use—nearly 40% of patients in the study reported not being offered it.
Portals provide physicians with a fast and easy way to communicate with chronically ill patients. They are a place to get complete and more accurate patient information. Portals empower patients to take ownership of their own healthcare, so they remain aware of the entire care process.
There are two main types of patient portals: a standalone system and an integrated service. Integrated patient portal software functionality usually comes as a part of an EMR system, an EHR system or practice management software. But at their most basic, they're simply web-based tools.
Although some clinicians use the terms EHR and EMR interchangeably, the benefits they offer vary greatly. An EMR (electronic medical record) is a digital version of a chart with patient information stored in a computer and an EHR (electronic health record) is a digital record of health information.
