As long as it is helpful, family — as you, the patient, define it — is welcome 24 hours a day, in most circumstances. Other guests can visit from 10 am to 9 pm depending on your unit. Request Medical Records. The information contained in the patient's medical record is the property of the patient. The record is the property of the hospital, to which UMMS is the custodian of that record. The patient does not automatically receive a copy of his/her medical record upon discharge from the hospital.
